As part of the VTA (Vocational and Transition Activities) towards their QCIA certificate, senior secondary students run a Snackshop at school once a week. This program gives students the opportunity to plan, budget, shop, purchase, use basic food preparation skill, use workplace health and safety skills, sell to customers, give change, interact and communicate with customers, and also importantly learn persistence, resilience and team work skills. The rest of the school also benefit as they purchase items as consumers, communicate and request, wait for their turn, and also just enjoy great snacks! Over the next year we are looking at further formalising this program in the senior secondary sector with the introduction of a Certificate 1 in Hospitality.
